Rebuild a smile, gently.
When a tooth has a cavity, a fracture, or has to come out, the care is the same: pediatric-sized materials, a slow pace, and sedation any time comfort calls for it.
Why families choose this service
Fillings and crowns
Tooth-coloured fillings for visible teeth, stainless steel and white crowns sized for primary teeth.
Extractions and root canals
Calm, careful removal of primary teeth that need to come out. Pulpotomies and pulpectomies where they can save the tooth.
Full mouth reconstruction
For children with extensive treatment needs, combined sedation lets us complete everything in one visit instead of many.
About this service
Restorative dentistry on a child is mechanically the same as on an adult but lived through very differently. We work in shorter sessions, use smaller instruments, talk through every step, and bring sedation into the conversation whenever comfort would benefit.
Primary teeth (baby teeth) deserve full restoration just like adult teeth. A primary molar that is lost too early can shift the bite, crowd the permanent molars coming up underneath, and cause years of orthodontic correction later. Space maintainers are part of the toolkit; we use them when an extraction is unavoidable.
When a child needs significant treatment all at once, full mouth reconstruction under in-office sleep dentistry is the kindest option. Everything is done in one visit, the child has no memory of the procedure, and the family avoids the months of small appointments that pile up otherwise.
What we offer
- Tooth-coloured (composite) fillings for visible teeth.
- Stainless steel and white-faced crowns sized for primary molars.
- Pulpotomy and pulpectomy (root canal alternatives) on primary teeth where they can save the tooth.
- Extractions of primary teeth and, when needed, permanent teeth with orthodontic referral.
- Space maintainers after an early extraction to preserve the bite.
- Full mouth reconstruction under in-office sleep dentistry for children with extensive needs.
- Coordination with orthodontists when post-treatment alignment is part of the plan.
Common questions
Why fix a baby tooth if it is going to fall out anyway?+
Because the primary tooth holds space for the permanent tooth that follows. A primary molar lost two or three years before its successor is ready can let the surrounding teeth drift in, blocking the permanent tooth's eruption and creating crowding that takes orthodontics to fix later.
Will my child be in pain?+
Local anesthetic numbs the area. Nitrous oxide handles most of the visit anxiety. For more involved work we move to oral sedation or in-office sleep dentistry. The vast majority of our restorative patients say the visit was easier than they expected.
How long does a crown last?+
On a primary tooth, the crown stays in place until the tooth naturally falls out. On a permanent tooth, properly placed crowns last well over a decade with routine care.
Do you offer orthodontics?+
We do not provide in-house orthodontics, but we coordinate closely with several orthodontists in the Durham region. If your child needs braces or aligners, we refer to a colleague we trust and stay involved through the treatment.
If you are unsure whether your child needs restorative work, the safest move is a consultation. Most of what we see at the exam can be addressed at the next visit without urgency.
