Patient information

Insurance, payment, and what to expect.

A short guide for new and returning families. The short version: direct insurance billing on every visit, the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted, and full payment is due at the completion of each procedure.

At a glance

The financial details, in three lines.

  • Direct insurance billing

We submit claims directly to most major Canadian dental insurance plans, so you only pay any portion not covered.

  • Canadian Dental Care Plan

The CDCP is accepted. We are happy to walk you through coverage details and confirm eligibility on the phone.

  • Payment at completion

Full payment is due at the end of each procedure. We accept credit, debit, and the standard digital payment options.

Patient information in detail

Direct insurance billing

We submit insurance claims on your behalf at the time of the visit. The portion your plan covers goes to us directly. The portion that is not covered (your deductible or co-payment) is settled at the end of the appointment.

Bring your insurance card or have your group and member numbers ready for your first visit so we can verify coverage in advance. Insurance carriers do not release coverage details to third parties, so we recommend confirming your plan's specifics with the insurer too, especially for sedation procedures.

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted at Durham Kids Dentistry. CDCP is a federal program for households below a defined income threshold without access to other dental insurance. Eligibility is determined by Service Canada; your enrollment notice from the program is what we need to see on file.

The same direct-billing process applies: we submit the claim, the plan pays its portion, and you settle anything the plan does not cover at the end of the visit.

Payment policy

Full payment is due at the completion of each procedure, regardless of insurance coverage. We are committed to ensuring that finances are not a barrier to your child's oral health, so for substantial treatment plans we are happy to discuss financing options case by case. Bring it up at the consultation.

New patient form

New patients are welcome and no referral is needed to book. Call (905) 579-0709 or send a request through our contact form and our front desk will set up the first visit and walk you through the new patient paperwork.

What to bring on the first visit

  • Your insurance card or CDCP enrollment letter.
  • A list of medications your child is currently taking, including dosage.
  • Any previous dental records from another clinic, if available.
  • A favourite small comfort item for younger children, if they have one.

Privacy of your child's information

Your child's health information is handled in line with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). See our privacy policy for the full details.
